I have a Win2000 Server SP3 that is a domain controller.
I want to change its computer name.
The properties button in the Network identification tab
is disabled.
How can I do this?
Also, would changing the name will effect any thing on
system.

Thanks.

You would have to demote it from its current role as
a domain controller. I think the command is "dcpromo".

Doing so will have far-reaching consequences on your
domain structure and AD. Not recommended unless
you're happy to rebuild everything, including your account
database.

thanks for replying.
is there a procedure from microsoft on doing this?
and any document which explain consequences or can you
provide any instructions?
when you say account database, do you mean the current
account db wont exist anymore?
Thanks
