change tooltip text in XP Quick Launch url shortcut icon

Hello -

I am trying to find out how to change the text inside the tooltip that
appears when mousing over a URL shortcut icon inside the Windows XP
Quick Launch area. It should be easy doing a rename via right-click but
it does not seem to work.

To replicate my problem, please do the following:

1. Go to http://www.onlinehomebase.com/test.html

2. Drag the link called "test" into your Windows XP Quick Launch Area
and create a short cut there.

When mousing over the icon, the tooltip on my computer says "Yahoo!
http://www.yahoo.com/".

I want it to change so that the tooltip reads "abc".

However, right-clicking the icon, and choosing rename and setting the
name to "abc" does not change the tool tip.

Any idea how to change the tooltip to read "abc"?

Thank you.

Marc.

Use the Properties tab.
mess around with the various fields/tabs.
general tab (change name) OR Shortcut (change comment)

URL shortcuts don't seem to have a user-adjustable comment field, it looks like it's hard-coded to be the URL.

That said, you could create a program shortcut to launch IE (or your browser of choice) with a target line such as:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

You can then change the comment field as you can on any other shortcut.
