Change the way users logon logoff

E

Ed.

Something happened either by a program install or a torjan or something and
my Windows XP logoff shutdown window now has the Windows 2000 look.

I go to Control Panel to Users Accounts to Change the way users logon and
logoff and there are two options. They both should be checked but aren't and
the checkboxes are now grayed out so you can't check them. The options are
for "Use the Welcome Screen" and "Use Fast User Switching".

I have scanned for viruses and spyware with Ad-aware and Spybot and they
have come up clean.

Would appreciate any information to get back to the Windows XP look.

Thanks,
Ed.

are you in an administrator account (who is the only one who could change
such options?).

Hi Ed,

What have you installed lately, as there are third party programs that do
this. That said:

Enable the Welcome Screen (Line 80)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

The "Welcome" Logon Screen Does Not Appear
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q305281&

If you are receiving Gina.dll error messages:

Restore the Windows XP Welcome Screen (Gina.dll)
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/fix_xp_logon.vbs

Good luck and if this doesn't help, more info needed.

Thanks for the reply. Before I got it, I just went and formatted and did a
clean XP install. I will keep your links in case needed in the future.

I wish I had seen them before I reinstalled so we know if that would have
taken care of the problem. If it happens again, we now have the links and
will give them a try.

Thanks Again,
Ed.

Can't turn it on. It is grayed out. Yes, I am in the Admin account. Thanks
for the reply but as I said earlier, I just formatted and reinstalled.
