Change the start up location of Windows Explorer

R

RScotti

Hi,

I want to use three Windows Explorers in my startup folder.

One for the default: My Documents and two others: C:\Program Files and J:\(root)
The one that has the default value for My Documents is I think? %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%

Can someone tell me what the other two would be?

Thanks,

Have a good day!

Create your shortcuts to Windows Explorer and then change the paths

for example
Start Windows Explorer In The C Drive
In the Explorer property sheet use this path and switches in the target:
C:\windows\explorer.exe /n,/e,c:\

What you want is a shortcut with a target that looks like this:

%SystemRoot%\Explorer.Exe /e,C:\

The "C:\" causes Explorer to open at the c: drive root. Adding "Program
Files" without the quotes will achieve the desired result.

Another way is to go to where you want to open Explorer with less than full
screen, leaving some desktop space available. . Right click on the parent
folder you wish to open in and drag it to your desktop. Release the Right
mouse button and choose Create Shortcuts Here. Voila! You have a shortcut
that will open Explorer at that exact level you chose. Now, if you wish to
place it somewhere else (like your startup folder), open that area and click
and drag the shortcut there.

I have shortcuts on my desktop that open Explorer at the C:\ drive level,
the My Music level, and at the folder I keep my Cadet classmate data in.

Hi Darrell S.

Your way is even better thanks.

How do you put these multiple Explorers all on your desktop? When I tried to do that with a
different program it asked me if I wanted to replace the first one.

Do you just put them in different places?

I did have a problem I know I must of done something wrong. When I tried this with one of my
programs it didn't copy the files in the main folder C:\Program Files\Agent\Agent.exe and all others
Lucky I just made a backup or I would have been screwed.
