This is a Windows setting and will alter many things: right click you
desktop and open properties and experiment with Themes and Appearances

Hi,

You can't do that inside of Excel, so it's probably better not to. You can
change the default font under Tools, Options, General if that helps at all.

Thanks for your response. I want to change background color not font so I am
still looking.

Thank You for the response but this does not work for what I want to do. A
co-worker has this done on his computer but does not know how it was done and
I cannot seem to find it in the EXCEL buttons.

select the relevant 'cell', 'row' or 'column', right click on it, go to
format cells, background and select the desired color

The only way to change the background colors of row and column headings is
change the color scheme under Windows Appearance settings.

Which is a global setting and will affect all applications.
