I'm pretty sure that Windows sets the netbios name for you. However, SAMBA's
smblcient does let you specify what you want to use for the hostname, so if
you have a system that has SAMBA, such as most Linux distros, you just have
to figure out using the smbclient. I wonder if you can telnet into the
messenger service port?
