change page background color

In MS Word (and all MS Office applications) one should be allowed to change
the background page color from stark white, and extended use can cause
extreme tiredness of the eyes etc. It would not influence how it would print.
Also people with some disabilities find the colour to cause additional
difficulty in using the computer.

One way is Tools>Options>General, check the box for Blue background - White
text. The color scheme can most likely be modified with VBA.

Also, in later versions of Word you can go to Format>Background & pick any
color you want, Format>Font to choose a contrasting font color. Just be sure
that your Print Options do not have a check in th box to print background
colors. If you want this combination as a default it can be done using a
template. (This can pose additonal considerations in some documents, though.)

Other techniques are also available.

You can do this already. Change the window color in Windows Control Panel |
Display | Appearance. I have mine set to RGB 255, 255, 225, which is very
restful.

CyberTaz: Formatting background color applies only in Web layout view, not
normal or Print layout.

Suzanne: RGB 255,255,255 is bright white, which is the default window color.
Did you mean another setting?

Hi Ted,

It's easy to miss, but the third (blue) component in Suzanne's reply
is 225, not 255.

Hi Ted-

Unless something is wrong with my system, I beg to differ. In Word 2003
setting a Backround Color most definitely _does_ affect the appearance of
page color in Print Layout View.

I did, however, neglect to point out that in order to do so there must be a
check in the box for Tools>Options>View - Background Colors & Images. Normal
& Outline view are not affected.
