change numbering/bullet spacing defaults

Word 2003 Student/Teached Edition: The current setting indent 2 spaces and
indent 2 spaces after number/bullet is hard to read and is not usually
standard practice in professional offices. How do I change the default to 5
spaces for the tab indent for the number or bullet and 5 spaces after?

Change the tab setting in the paragraph style.

Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S, select the style name, right-cick, choose Modify,
Format, Tabs

It isn't measured in "spaces," but in fractions of an inch.

I'm sorry, I really can't quite figure out where you are starting from. I've
tried just about everything. Are you talking about the drop down menu in
format?

Did you try simply doing what I said?

Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S

Select the style with the badly spaced bullet

Right-click on its name

Choose "Modify"

Click Format

Chose Tabs

Change the positions of the tabs marking the bullet position and the
text start position

The Format menu will affect only the paragraph the cursor is in at the
time, not all paragraphs of that style.
