Which name? The computer's name? Log on as administrator and modify the
network properties. Then reboot.

The name that was used in installing windows2000 was
misspelled.
I tried changing it from the folder passwords and users
and it won't let me. I'm signed on as an administrator.

just run regedit and do a search : control f (or edit....find)

then enter the name exactly as it's misspelled
then you can modify the entry

Will this change allow the system to boot the next time
without problems in the bios and/or registry? I did find
the name in the regedit but I'm a little afraid to change
things in the registry.

The name is wrong in the following areas:
System Properties-General Tab-Registered to
Network Identification-Full computer name

You can also try this:

Start-Settings-Control Panel-System-Click on the Network Identification
Tab-Click on Properties-replace computer name in computer name box.
