my laptop display went out and I hooked up the monitor from my desktop.
This was working fine for a while. I rebooted to recently and for some
reason the disply settings changed. So I went into the display settings.
While trying to change the resolution back to where it was, I inadvertently
selected the multiple monitor setting and applied it. Now, nothing comes up
on the monitor. It appears to be off screen to the left, but since the
laptop display does not function, I cannot see any of this.
How can I change this back if all the windows screen pop up to the left
where i cannot see them?

Boot into Safe Mode and see what happens.

how can i boot into safe mode flying blind with nothing on the monitor or
display? now nothing is even showing up on the monitor

i was able to boot into safe mode and had a normal screen. when i went into
display settings, i tried to change the device, but it did not have that
option. so when it booted back up normally, it did was right back to where
it started.
i wonder if i can change the display adapter somewhere else?

I should have told you to run system restore while there.

Go back and restore to a point prior to when this all started.
