password when installed from the initial download of my
system?

Hi Lily,

Your operating system was not downloaded, it was installed. If your friend
applied a password to the system admin, ask what it was.

1. Go to Start/Run and type in: control userpasswords2 and press ok.

2. On the Users tab, check that Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

Add Control UserPasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

If that is done:

Start/Control Panel/Users/Change the Way users log on or off/Use Welcome
Screen and Use Fast User Switching.

Enable the Welcome Screen (Line 80)
