Change in network sharing folders with winxp?

I used to share c drive on both networked machines. When I networked on
either machine I could see the files on cdrive and open them etc. I have not
used xp for a while and have found out to open files on other networked
cdrive I must copy cdrive icon on both machines to shared folder to be able
to see and open files. Has msoft change something to cause this.
