Change Hard Drive Cable?

Hello

I have recently changed the cable leading to my Hard Drive with a new
coloured tube like colour. This was to improve the appearence of my computer
case. However, It has now meant I have got some errors. These errors do not
appear in windows and I would not know about them unless I had gone into the
System Event Viewer.

I now recieve the following errors which happen every time I boot into
windows:

Event ID 11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D.

Event ID 5
A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort0.

When I click on the help and support it suggests that I change the cables.

I was therefore wondering how serious this problem is? As I have recieved no
errors or problems running my computer. I do not want to spend extra on
getting a new cable if it will not matter if I get this error. However if
this is not the case and that this problem may risk the data on my hardrive
then I will change the cable.

However I do not know if this is this is the case. Could someone please
advise me?

Thanks in advance

Replace it with the old cable.. if the problem goes away, return the 'round'
cable to the place of purchase..

Anytime there is a parity error it is dangerous. If the cable fails ot
properly send the data (as referenced by he controller failure) your data
and/or file structure may be trashed. Change back to the original cable
immediately. If the cable you purchased is designed for ATA 100-133 (80
wire - 40 pin connector) use the cable is probably defective. Return it for
a refund or exchange.

But then the color of the cable might not match his window treatments.

As others have suggested, don't mess around with this, not for one more moment. This is the type of error that should pop-up and flash at you every 30 seconds in terms of severity and probability of complete data loss/system failure.

Use the old cable and make sure you have the proper cable for your system. Are you using a Cable Select cable with a standard Master/Slave drive configuration?

In any event, put the old cable back and watch those events.

What is more important, Reliable XP or good looks?

The suggestion of replacing the cable with the original cable and see if the
problem is fixed is temporary! If this fixes the problem, then the rounded
cable is defective and needs to be replaced with a working one.

While nobody is disputing that the new round cable should be replaced, why
is using the old ribbon cable only temporary?..

If the original poster is a case modder (???) and wants to have a the "look"
of rounded cables, then is their option to replace the flat ribbon cable
with a rounded cable of QUALITY! You should not buy a flat cable that has
been "rounded" genericly!

When I tried a 'round' IDE cable, I found it had been assembled in such
a way that it was impossible to get it to plug into drives reliably
