change domain password on non-domain (workgroup) machine

We have a Windows 2000 domain (call it BOB) and have
laptop users with machines in the BOB workgroup who
wish to change their domain password. They have local
accounts on the laptops with the same username/password as
the domain accounts. When they change the password on the
laptop, though, the domain password isn't changed. I've
found the setting in Windows XP to do that, however still
have several folks with Windows 2000 on their laptops and
need to know how they can change their domain password
from their laptop.

Why not join the laptops to the domain, and have them log into the domain?
This would be a LOT easier. They don't need local accounts...they can always
log in with cached credentials even when working away from the network.

That's what we do with our laptops that nurses use in the field. Works well.
An added benefit is that the domain's GPO is applied even when they are
working off-line.... Nice to be able to prevent them from installing
software and changing system parameters.....
