Lots of replies. This has certainly turned into somethign much bigger than
anticipated. i still hve that movie quote from 1983 floating around in the
back of my mind... the same quote that cretp up before I made my first post
addressed to you folks. "the only winning move is not to play". I do not
feel like there is an argumetn to "win" or "lose" here and I very much
appreciate the feedback and attention you've all given to this. Because I
really don't want this to escalate into anything, I likely will not respond
further unless you guys have direct questions that I need to answer.
I will also note that some of you have differing opinions on what should be
allowed and where the lines should be drawn. It makes it a little difficult
to address you all. I'll try my best.
Sorry if you thought I missed your point Joe. I tried to address it in the
first two or three paragraphs of the post I made on Wednesday morning.
I understand what you're saying Ace, about many people posting for help and
leaving... not taking the time to voice possible annoyances. But I also do
not think it appropriate to make assumptions on how other people feel and
determine that posts need to be made upon their behalf. I don't think we
should really go there. Thats not really anyone's role. Besides, like I
said, I've only ever gotten positive feedback from people asking for help,
never negative. As for your stance on solicitation, I think some people see
it differently... how much is acceptible? How much is helpful and truely
welcomed? How much is damaging the integrity of the community? Is it ok if
you're recommending a paid solution that you're not associated with? I'm
not saying there is an easy answer to any of these, I'm jsut saying that I
think even amongst the MVPs, an important subset of this community, there
are different tolerance levels. I'm certainly not randomly spamming
messages that do not apply to the threads involved. In fact, the number of
posts I make is relatively small. Of the hundreds/thousands of posts here
each day on the MS groups mine are such an insignificant number. I've
averaged less than two a week over the last year. And a good number of
those do not mention DSRAZOR. I'm only mentioning this point because it
seems to be the fovus of a great deal of the annoyance expressed by some of
you. Below I'll link some posts where I do not mention DSRAZOR. i'm
certainly not doing it as an "I told you so", thats not my attitude at
all... if it were I might have done it off the bat, early in the thread. I
just wanted to make sure that was the concern. Also... someone started
throwing numbers up here so I thought I should address it. I've posted less
than 100 posts in the last year....so I don't think that I'm a "problem
spammer". Linked below are some, not all, posts in the last year that do
not mention DSRAZOR. Anyway, I'm not trying to seek the approvoal of all
you guys, thats an unrealistic goal. All I ask is that when I offer someone
help that you don't reply to those efforts with a diminishing remark. Thats
all really.

As for putting the product in your hands... thank you for the clarification.
I'm glad you explained more fully what you meant. I wasn't "getting it".
Myself, I think thats a great idea. We have something like that with our
DSRAZOR for eDirectory/NDS product. Our support engineers on that side of
our company are a welcome fixture on Novell's support forums. There is a
special contractor license for Novell contractors that need to support
multiple clients. We also have a relationship with Novell Consulting in
which we provide special licenses to those Novell employees that go on-site
to customers and provide consulting. As for offering something up for all
of you MVPs, that is definitely out of my hands. I'm a support engineer,
not an executive or marketing person. I will contact Joe via email about
this one.

Thanks again guys. You've all continued to earn my respect.

-blush-

I sincerely appologize for the syntax errors in my previous post. It
accidentally went off before I could make my proofreading pass.

Appologies.
