Change Default Photo Editor

I like the Windows XP Picture Viewer. But when I click Close and Reopen for
Editing, the pictures reopen in Paint, which is not a very satisfactory photo
editor. I have to close out Paint, then open Picture It!, then reopen the jpeg.
Is there a way to make Picture It! the default photo editor?
I want to be careful because I DON'T want to make Picture It! the default photo
viewer.

Hi,

Go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types. Select an image
type (jpg). Click on Advanced then New. Name for Action type in: &Edit.
Under Application used to perform action: Browse to the
application/software. Set it as default. Ok your way out.

Shouldn't it also be necessary to change a setting in Paint, which now opens as
the picture editor? This function works from the Windows Picture and Fax
Viewer. I would think that it is what determines which program to open for
editing a given picture. Or am I just totally confused?
