Change default appointment start and end times from 30 min to 10 m

G

Guest

I schedule my appointments in 10 minute blocks. Is there a way to change the
default 30 minute interval start and end times to 10 minutes. I know I can
enter anytime I want manually but it would be a lot easier to select 10
minute intervals from the drop down menu.

If you change the time scale on the Day view of the calendar to 10-minute
increments, your new appointments will default to 10 minute lengths also.
Right-click the time scale to change the value.

Your solution partially solved my problem. Let's make sure we are using the
same version, 2002. Your instructions did change the intervals in the "Day"
view. I still have the 30 minute default when I open an appointment window
by double clicking on a day in the monthly calendar. I right clicked on a
day of a month and selected
"other settings". The "time scale" shows 10 minutes. I have restarted
outlook. Still no change.

I use Outlook 2003 and don't have a copy of Outlook 2002 to test with, but I
will see if I can find someone else to test it for you. Keep an eye on this
thread.

Thank you, Do you know how to make the changes in 2003? It may be a similar
method.

OK, it's been confirmed that in both Outlook 2002 and 2003, the default
interval for a new appointment is always 30 minutes. Apparently this can't
be changed...sorry....

Sorry, in the last reply I mean to say "...the default interval for a new
appointment *in Month view* is always 30 minutes."

Thanks again. Are you familiar with designing forms? Do you think it is
possible to change the default in the form design feature of outlook?

G

Well, ordinarily I'd send you to www.outlookcode.com which has lots of
information on designing custom forms...but considering that the owner of
that website, my fellow Outlook MVP Sue Mosher, was one of the people who
told me that she didn't think it was possible to do what you are asking, I'd
have to say it's not likely. Sorry...

Thanks for all of your assistance. I guess I will just have to make my
appointments in the "Day" view.

I also set Outlook 2003 Calendar to "day" view and set the time scale to 10
minutes. I tried the 15 minute time scale as well. My new appointments
still default to a 30 minute time scale, no matter what time scale I have set
the main calendar to.

Yes, several times. And because of persistent reminder problems, I've also
restarted using the "cleanreminders" and "restefolders" switches. New
appointments still default to 1/2 hour increments.

It seems the only way to make the time interval change is to change the code.
Does anyone know which department at Microsoft would handle suggestions from
consumers?

Make suggestions to Microsoft through the Office Community website. Go to
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx, browse the
newsgroup you want to make suggestion in, click the New button and then
Suggestion for Microsoft on the menu.
