Change a dos file name

i have no idea where to put this, so its here.

i have a dos file name that for some reason never changed back to the
origional file name. is there a program that will change the dos shorthand
name to the origional name?

The syntax is :
ren [drive][path]oldname newname

download VB, make this file, and then do something to get the long file name.
