certain web pages won't load

using fresh install windows 2000 pro, ie6 latest update,
cna't load certain pages,have checked all security
settings vs. other home network computers, have deleted
all temp files, cookies, index.dat

can't load:
www.windows.com
www.sciencenews.org

It may be a HOSTS file problem.
Look also for a file named HOSTS (no extension, could be hidden) rename it
OLDHOSTS.
