System, XP Home, SP2 just installed using and using Outlook Express

Something has happened to IE 6, using Outlook Express. Only see red x in
corner of document. If I try and forward the doc to myself, I see the entire
document., no x's. However, if I receive the doc, the x's are back with a
blank document.

I also cannot open links on some sites, even if I hold down the ctrl key
while clicking on the link.
I have just installed SP2, and no fixes occurred.

I can open the links in Netscape, without problems.
Thanks in advance,
Bob

What are your settings in?...

OE Tools > Options > Read > Read all messages in Plain Text

OE Tools > Options > Security > Download images > ...

Are you referring to an attachment with a DOC extension? Are these messages
being sent by someone using MS Outlook and RTF format?

Does doing this help?...

Start > Run > (type in) regsvr32 /inetcomm (note the space) > OK

OE6-specific newsgroup:

Is IE configured as your default browser at...?

Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Set Program Access and Defaults

1. You click on a link and an IE window doesn't even open:

http://www.oehelp.com/ielnk.aspx.

2. You click on a link and an IE window opens but it doesn't load:

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You
Click on a Link

(Re-register all DLLs listed in the above KB article)

3. Installing the latest Cumulative Patch for IE may solve the problem as a
side-effect. Check in at Windows Update.

Thanks, your input fixed the problems. It was the shdocvw.dll that caused
the link to not open.
Would there be any harm in running the remainder dll's you mentioned?
Thanks again
