I was told that centrino technology uses satelite connections. Is this
true or do you still need access through designated hot spots?

I dont know if they meant that Toshiba Satellite Laptops with Centrino came
with Wireless, but 802.11x technology requires a connection that is provided
by "hot spots" or base stations that usually must reside within 150-300 feet.
There is no current compatibility with 802.11x Wireless and Satellites.

Their commercials would certainly lead you to believe that! Showing a laptop
getting a connection from inside the Coliseum in Rome? yeah right.

Basically, Centrino is a marketing name for any Intel Pentium M CPU system
that is also shipped with either the Intel 2100 or 2200 wireless chipsets.
The 2100/2200 use standard 802.11 wireless technology.

No satellite yet. :-(
