Cell formating

How do I format a cell such that I see a number say 40000000.00 as
4,00,00,000.00 ?
 
Click Format then Cells. Select the Number tab.
Click on Custom in the category box and in the Type box type #,###.00
 
This does not work. I need to format my number as follows - 2,55,000.0
and not as 255,000.00

Can you help?
