Celeron 600 MHz Acceptable for Windows XP

I'm trying to convert an existing Imerge SoundServer
running Linux into a Windows XP Music Server so I can run
Napster output into my high end audio system.

The Imerge has an EC P6STP-FN Motherboard and an Intel
Celeron 600 MHz Processor. All I want to do is stream
audio files from my hard drive and from the internet. I
have 1.5MB-Down DSL connection.

Does this processor have enough HorsePower for this
dedicated application?

As long as you have enough ram, it might be enough (you can help your cause
by turning off all the eye candy in
the System Control Panel, Advanced Tab under Performance).

A Celeron 600 is probably on an older motherboard and
probably has low end sound card.

Your FSB is set at 66 MHz, too (I think).

It won't cost much to buy Windows but Linux is NOT an
upgrade path so you'll need buy a full retail or a Microsoft
OEM (not an OEM from any computer company) and do a clean
install after a format.

If it doesn't work on the Celeron machine you could build a
new computer and transfer the retail XP OS to that machine
but an OEM would be tied to the old machine. Still, you can
buy 2 OEM CDs for less than 1 retail CD.

I run XP on a 566 Mhz machine and it works wonderfully
