I had the same case but solved now.
IN my case, I downloaded and upgraded the BIOS from computer manufactuerer.
I can write from onecompuer(XP home) and read on the other computer(XP Pro)
or vise versa.
If the BIOS doesn't support it, any other software for burning cd will not
recognise it.

My CDRW drive won't recognize blank CDs. It reads and runs software CDs,
but I've tried to record to brand new CDR's and brand new CDRWs and the
drive wont even acknowledge that a CD has been inserted. Do I need a new
CDRW?
