CDRW Problem

My CDRW drive won't recognize blank CDs. It reads and runs software CDs, but I've tried to record to brand new CDR's and brand new CDRWs and the drive wont even acknowledge that a CD has been inserted. Do I need a new CDRW?

If you are using XP Home, there is no built in support for CD burning - only
in XP Pro. If you have XP Home, you will need to get some software like
Nero.

That is simply untrue. The built-in XP HOME burning software works fine
for both CD/R and CD/RW disks, but its functionality is limited.

Check out Kelly's link, below. Click on "C" and scroll down to...

I had the same case but solved now.
IN my case, I downloaded and upgraded the BIOS from computer manufactuerer.
I can write from onecompuer(XP home) and read on the other computer(XP Pro)
or vise versa.
If the BIOS doesn't support it, any other software for burning cd will not
recognise it.

Sorry Jerry, there is built in burning on home, I have it and I do it. I also
have Nero for more complex matters than straight data storage
