Can any one help please?
Since grandson used the computer to play audio the
cdrw/dvd has not functioned properly. It will play
dvd's but will not recognise a cdrom or an audio cd.
The device manager says all is ok but it isn't. I have
removed the drivers and reinstalled them but to no
avail. Is the unit u/s?. The comp is an e-machine 330.

Try the following: insert a data (not audio) CD that was readable before
this accident.
Try to read it. Then check the event log. are there any "bad block" or
"controller timeout" errors
since the time when you inserted the disk?
If yes, cleaning the drive with a cleaning disk may help. Some drives need
manual cleaning, you probably need a technician for this. If not - the laser
in the drive may be damaged :-(
