My cd/dvd rom drive is not been picked up by my notebook. Its a removeable
drive and when i insert the floppy drive, it works fine. I have run the
diagnostics and cd/dvdrom appears fine.
Can anyone help?

Doubleclick the My Computer icon on your desktop and see if it listed
under Devices with removable storage. If it is, rightclick it and click
Properties due do some troubleshooting. You can also go to the Device
Manager in the Control Panel/System/Hardware or the Disc Detector.

I just spent four days trying to install software on my windows xp, checked
my cd/dvd drive and it was fine also. I found out today that the problem with
my computer was windows new update for service pack 2, that update had to be
uninstalled from my computer and now everything works fine, a computer tech
told me that this update has been causeing alot of problems for alot of people

I have a related problem in my presario 1712AP notebook's hot-swappable dvd
rom drive but mine can read cd rom, cd audio and VCD's but not DVD. I have
installed the latest dvd decoder already as well as the microsoft decoder
utility checker which indicates its compatibility but still nothing.
HP/Compaq tells me to uninstall SP2 which I do not not want to do. Any help
is greatly appreciated. Thanks
