CDrom drives not visible in explorer.

Having installed XP Pro from CD and rebooted on completion
( newly formatted drive NTFS )i find that neither the
cdrom drive or the cdwriter appear in windows explorer.The
drives do appear however if the machine is started in safe
mode. Any help greatly appreciated.
