CD_ROM Driver Is Corrupted

My CD-ROM quit working one day. i went to Device Manager to see what the
problem was. It says "Driver is corrrupted or missing (Error Code:39) I
bought a NEW drive and still the same message, So its not the drive itself.
The windows Driver is corrupted because its still there i looked. HOWEVER,
windows cant locate a solution to the problem and i cant reinstall the driver
with my Vista Disk because the drive doesn't work! Is there any way to get a
new driver. This is extreamly irratating!

If you can remove the drive, PnP will delete it (or try to) on the next
reboot. Then, turn off you PC and put it (or the new one) back in and Vista
will reconfigure it properly.

You ought to be able to run the repair utility anyway. It would involve
booting from the Vista DVD rather than the hard drive. (You'll probably have
to change the boot order in the BIOS settings.) Error in Windows settings
would have no effect on this, as you wouldn't be trying to boot into the
Vista installation on the HD.

Alternately: I don't know whether this applies to Vista, but it may:

(also contains Error 39)

Basically, it involves finding "upperfilters" and "lowerfilters" entries in
the Windows registry, and deleting them. They are calls to drivers that are
no longer installed.
