I've recently installed SP2 on my WinXP PRO
since then i can't write cds anymore. i use either nero either roxio cd
creator and there's always a "track following error"
before having installed SP2 i never had that problem.
Any suggestions?
thanx

Have you tried installing the numerous updates to Nero, for SP2? Mine works
fine, after that. Forget Roxio...it's a real quagmire.

"track following error" may be due to:-
1]Poor media:in that case try more than one brand of CD-R media to rule
this out as cause.
2. Poor power: there may be fluctuating power supply.Check the connector
and be sure that it doesn't share with others.
3. Optical head is dirty or needs alignment - first clean the head by a
CD-cleaner disk. If it doesn't help, contact a PC service.

Perhaps this may help you. I had a problem (file verification failed) with
Nero writing large files on my DVD writer. The problem existed with XPSP1,
even with Windows 98 OS. So far I have found two solutions which give error
free writing of data files on CD/DVD:

Solution 1: Disable DMA on the CD Drive (In Bios as well as Control Panel-
system - Hardware - Device Manager - IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers - (Primary or
Secondary IDE Channel as applicable) - Advanced Settings.

Solution 2: Let the DMA remain enabled. Use BurnOn CD&DVD (Freeware
available at http://www.burnworld.com/burnoncddvd/index.htm).

No problems here with SP2 and Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6.
