Slipstream XPPro and SP2 using Roxio Easy CD Creator 7

I have looked at several sites telling how to do a Slipstream of XP and SP2
and followed the early steps. But they all seem to do it with Roxio 6 or
Nero Burning Rom 6. I have both Nero Express 6 and Roxio Easy CD Creator 7.
Does anyone have a method for (or a site for) doing it with one of these
pieces of software?
Thanks.

Go to www.autopatcher.com and get their program AutoStreamer - it will
make it a bit easier.

Bob:
Jerry's advice is sound. AutoStreamer is a wonderful and simple program for
slipstreaming. After you create the .iso file using AutoStreamer...
Start Roxio Easy Media Creator and open Creator Classic.

In the “Other Tasks” section, click on “Burn From Disk Image File”.

Navigate to the location of the slipstreamed .iso file you created with
AutoStreamer and click Open.

Roxio’s “Burn Progress” window will open. Click “Burn”.

I'm assuming the basic steps above can also be used with Roxio's Easy CD
Creator, but I don't have that program handy at the moment to test it.

Jerry, I found a link there that worked for autopatcher, but the link for
autostreamer did NOT work. Do you have any suggestions?

I tried both creating the slipstream manually (using either Nero or Roxio).
I scraped several CDs doing manually. I then found Autostreamer and it is
the greatest method for Slipstreaming.

Thank you Dave. This site did give a working link for the latest version of
autostreamer and a discussion forum about it. I have 2 questions.

1. Does one have to slipstream SP1 before slipstreaming SP2? (maybe a dumb
question)?
2. Does autoslipstreamer actually burn the CDRom? The last screen shot on
the site is called "Working". In it, the last 2 steps are creating an ISO
file, and cleaning up temporary files. I have a CD R/W drive and software.
However, the software is not capable of burning this kind of disk. So, what
I am missing is the way to do the burning. Will this do the trick?

Thanks.

From what I read on that site, it is best if you slipstream form a non
previously slipstreamed disc (also non OEM). Although my first test was
with a homemade SP1 slipstreamed disc -> SP2. The resulting .iso file size
is just shy of 640 MB. I think that was the main concern is that you get
extraneous files doing it this way.

Autostreamer only creates the *.iso file. You need other software (Nero,
Roxio, etc) to create a disc from iso image. I am sure there are free tools
available that can do this also.

I asked that on this NG a while back and the MVP's said no you
don't... any prior version of XP can be slipstreamed up to SP2.
2. Does autoslipstreamer actually burn the CDRom?

No, it just creates the image that you will later burn to a disk with
your own burning software.
I have a CD R/W drive and software.
However, the software is not capable of burning this kind of disk. So, what

According to the slipstream manual, you will need Nero Burning ROM or
Easy CD Creator. Nero has a trial version you can download. I have
seen some real strange burning software packages that come with a lot
of new OEM computers that really don't have or give a lot of needed
options to do proper CD/DVD burning. If you don't have either Nero or
Roxio, I would suggest getting one or the other. My personal choice
is Nero 6 Ultra Edition v6.6.0.8

Anyway...

You will now need to burn the CD Image file onto a blank CD. For this
purpose, a CD recorder along with CD burning software (for example
Ahead Nero Burning ROM, Roxio Easy CD Creator etc) will be needed. You
can complete the burning procedure on any system with a CD Recorder
(Any operating system; not just Windows 2000/XP/2003). Depending on
your CD burning software, you will need to use the option to burn an
Image on the CD. For example, in Nero Burning ROM 6.x, the "Recorder
-> Burn CD Image" is the one in question. Consult your software's
manual for additional help. Also, depending on your CD burning
software the following options may or may not be the default ones. In
such case, adjust them to:
Type of Image Data Mode 1
Block size (Bytes) 2048
Image header (Bytes) 0
Image trailer (Bytes) 0
Make sure Write, Finalize CD, and Disc-At-Once are checked, then
choose Write (again, depends on software).

Hope this helps,
Dave

also non OEM)
Actually, you can slipstream an OEM version as long as the OEM Disk
is the OS only and does not contain OEM Restoration Drivers and
Handlers associated with the OEM manufacturer. I have a couple of
Gateway OEM XP-SP1 CD's which I slipstreamed up to SP-2 just fine.
Actually I have already done a restoration on one of the Gateway
Computers using the slipstreamed OS CD and it worked just fine.

My understanding is, if the OEM is a stand-alone version of the actual
OS then it will work. Gateway uses two disks for restoration, the
drivers and handlers disk and the OEM OS disk. Some other
manufacturers combine both on a single disk and it those that can not
be slipstreamed.

DW

Anna, you have left out some very important burn settings to get a
bootable CD. Slipstreaming info:

No, John. To the best of my knowledge the information I furnished was
accurate insofar as using Roxio's product (indicated above) to burn a
bootable slipstreamed XP/SP2 CD following the AutoStreamer creation of the
..iso file. If I omitted any pertinent info or misstated such, please
specifically indicate what I "left out", rather than merely listing a group
of websites.
