CD writer

The software with my cd/rw won't work with xp and the software issuer says
'tough, buy our latest', no update allowed. So much for Easy CD Creator.

XP has a procedure to write to cd but it is complicated.

Anyone have a lead on a freebee cd writer? I intend to soon buy a dvd/rw
that should have an xp version but in the interim, I'd like a filler. I
feel that I've paid once and shouldn't have to pay again for the same thing.

I thought it was easy when I tried it on a friend's computer. Very drag
'n' drop. Suppose it might depend on what type of CD you're making. I
was backing up some photographs to CD that I had taken with his digital
camera.

Install ASPI v4.6 and your EZCD should work fine. Look for a program
named forceaspi.exe. More info and links in my dandies...

I'll check it out. My version is 4.0. Came with my Plextor CD RW. At
their website (EZCD) they are VERY emphatic about saying any version less
than 5.1 will not work on XP so I gave up.

I *really* like this one:
"CDBurnerXP Pro is a freeware CD-Writer program. The program can write CD-R
and CD-RW discs. It can also write discs directly from an ISO image file,
and save image as an ISO image file (*.iso). CDBurnerXP can also erase CD-RW
discs, other features are:

a.. ISO9660/Joliet can be read by most Operating Systems with no
additional drivers.
b.. Supports all major buffer protection technologies such as Just Link,
Burn Proof, and PowrBurn.
c.. Works with most IDE, SCSI, USB 1.0/2.0, and 1394 Fire wire CD/CD-RW
drives.
d.. Write ISO images for raw writing by other applications.
e.. Import ISO images from other applications.
f.. Import multi-session data tracks.
g.. Supports creation of multi-session disks.
h.. Supports use of high write speeds.
i.. ASPI not required for NT/2000/XP.
j.. Supports erase and rewriting of re-writable CDs
k.. Burn Audio CD's, only WAV-files supported.
l.. Rip Audio CD's to MP3, OGG, WMA, WAV"

Don't listen to them. I use ASPI v4.6 on my XP M/C and it works fine. In
fact I found that a lot of my programs wont work with anything else.

I just spent 45 min trying to find the right address to update my Easy CD
Creator v4.0 and can't refind it. Yesterday, I had it (I think).

What is ASPI? Update for Easy CD Creator v4.0?

CDBurnerXP Pro looks like it may be a winner although I haven't had a chance
to try it as yet.

My thanks to everyone who offered to help.

No, it is four low level files that are used by almost all programs
when ripping/burning. It is an acronym for "Advanced SCSI Program
Interface"...an acronym with another one. :)

IIRC, MS used to license it from Adaptec but when they came out with
Windows XP they got cheap and included their own. Consequently, none
are normally in XP but most ripping/burning programs - even if they
already work with XP - will work better if you install them. Their
lack is why your EZCD 4.0 doesn't work with XP. To install them, get
"forceaspi.exe" and follow the directions. BTW, install ASPI v4.6 not
v4.7. You can check to see what you have - or if you have them - with
a free program available at Adaptec/Roxio named ASPICHK.exe.

Medway Minders

Hi, new to this group and looking for CD writer as my EZCD 4.0 doesn't work
with XP, and found this thread.

I have used the ASPICHK.exe and it says that I already have ASPI v4.6
installed so any other ideas as to why won't it work please?

Thx.

why you fullquote this only to say having no idea? If you have no idea
there is even no reason for any posting! Imagine, everybody would post
having no idea :-(

Please learn how to use the Usenet. You are not alone concerning this
especially in this NG - huge TOFU, fullquote and so on :-(
