I can no longer write files to my CD or DVD drives under windows. However, I
can do so with third party software. I can still read files from windows.
Hardware status is OK.

SP2 installed. The system seems otherwise stable. I have just unistalled
some software, but it's been a while since I burned anything, so can't be
sure of a connection. Sys restore didn't help.

The drivers are up to date, but maybe I should overwrite them? - I'm unsure
how to go about that, as there was no option when it reported that I alreday
have the latest dirvers.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Open Windows Explorer, right click the drive in question and look at the
recording tab. It should be obvious what you then need to do. If you use
Nero why would you want to use windows built in feature?

Hi Glen,

Thanks for the reply, but I had already checked that the device was set to
record. I ahve just two mins now, but I restarted my computer last night, and
tried again, and it worked. I don't understand, as I had rebooted before.
It's behaviour had been eratic anyway last night, sometimes telling me there
was nor disc (this happened with both drives), and at other times it would
seemingly record, but upon inspection, there was no recording. I have to
check later if this really has rectified itself (but how).

Thanks.

Update:

It stopped working again. I have no idea why. One thing I was wrong about is
that my DVD drive does not record CDs, just reads them. I'm sure it was sold
to me at the time as that it could burn CDs, but since it can only read DVDs,
I should have realised, I guess.

Anyway, I cannot burn to my CD drive through windows (apart from once, last
night). I can continue to burn using Nero. Testing with other burning sofware
(Feurio) also showed that it can indeed burn, and is not a hardware problem.

To answer your question as to 'why I use Windows to do this'? - Convenience,
that's all. Drag/drop; send to; and copy/paste, are all very convenient
sometimes. Apart from that, why should I loose functionality, just because I
have an alternative method? - Actually, Nero (the version I have) does not
behave well with CD-RW, so I could do with the Windows option for more than
just convenience.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,

I have not been able to reslove this issue. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

My CD burner continues to not burn using windows, but will with other
software (this is often rather inconvenient, and overkill).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.
