CD will not read

I have XP Pro with a dvd/cd combo burner. I have been
having problems with the cd not reading disk contents,
this is however an intermittent problem. I have formatted
the c: drive and reloaded windows. The drive will always
read in boot up. I do however get an event message that
near enough corresponds with the time this problem
occurs, it states: "The IMAPI CD-Burning COM service
entered a stopped state"
Is there any connection? If not have you any suggestions?

Try this:
Open the Control Panel, Open the Administrative Tools folder, double-click Services,
scroll down to IMAPI, right-click, properties, "start up type" automatic "Service
status" start.
