CD-RW Media not recognized

Why can I not get my CD-RW to be recognized. Everything is working, except
the disk drive acts like there is not a disk at all. What am I doing wrong?

Do you mean the drive is not recognized or the disk is not recognized?

From the way you worded your question it sounds like the latter--the disk is
not recognized. If this disk was formatted as a rewritable CD, you can't
read it on a machine that doesn't have packet writing support. Does yours?
