CD-RW Drive not working

Is this true for both Manufactured and recorded cds? have you installed
any 3rd party software for burning or ripping CD's, or perhaps one of
the famous SONY music cds?

I have the same problem.

I place a CD in my CD R/RW drive and it:
1. Spins around
2. Shows the CD icon on the mouse
3. Doesn't do anything, no autorun or anything like that.

I go into My Computer, and it shows that there is a Drive there, (D:), but
instead of the name of the cd, it just says what type of cd drive it is.
When I go into the drive, it opens up, and it looks like I'm staring into a
blank disc.
When I use Nero, or burn by opening d: and dragging things on it, it asks me
to insert a blank cd, when there is one in there, and tells me that the drive
is empty.
"Medium
(Empty) "
When I go into device manager, It shows the cd drive, and says that it's
working properly.

Downloading a new driver from the manufacturers website didn't fix the
problem, and the windows troubleshooter wasn't helpful either.

I recently recieved updates from windows XP aswell, maybe that's the problem.
The only other major program I installed for my computer was Storm Codec.

Please help!
