Help!! My CD-ROM will not read anymore! It used to work but now I cannot
even play a CD! The little green light comes on for a while and then goes
off! It appears to be reading the disk but then gives up! Then the pc tells
me that there isn't a disk in the drive.. Can anyone shed any light on
this..? Please..?

Boot to dos with a dos bootdisk, then try to read your cds, and see if
it's a windows problem or a hardware problem.

It sounds like the drive has died. Try it in a different machine. If it
doesn't work, then you know the drive is toast and you should replace
it. If it does work, then try a known-good drive in your original
machine. If the problem shows up, you know the issue is on the
motherboard.

You can find a bootable floppy that includes real-mode CD-ROM drivers
(so you can read CDs in the DOS session) at www.bootdisk.com

Try the CD in another drive.

Try the drive in another computer.
