CD-ROM

Hi. I've been searching this site for solutions to my
problem and while I've found several that are close
matches, none are right on the money. Here's what's
going on with me:

The computer isn't recognizing the CD-ROM in My
Computer/Explorer. It is in Device Manager but is
recognized as being a SCSI drive which it isn't. The HDD
is also being recognized as SCSI but is working fine.
Both drives are IDE. I know there's power to the CD-ROM
and I know it's not the drive itself as I've changed it
and the cables as well. I've also tried removing and
reinstalling it in Device Manager and also just changing
the driver. Nothing has worked yet. There's been no new
software installed on the computer in the last couple of
months and this just started happening a few days ago.
The computer is running W2K SP4 and is a Dell Optiplex GX-
150.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated and would help
others as well as I've seen several posts similar to mine.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi, interestingly, I'm having the same problem, except
that the device manager recognizes my drives properly,
while Windows Explorer does not. My drives are LiteOn CD
burners, and we too tried re-installing drivers and
switching drivers and cables. At first, only blank CDs
were not recognized, and then no CDs were recognizable.

Good Luck,
Krista

I have the same cd drive. Hmmmm... It was working fine,
the just quit. No one seems to have any idea as to what
it could be except for checking/changing/re-checking the
cables, which is good advice, but I already tried it.
It's a stumper. Good luck to you too.

check your IDE controler driver are up to date.
(also right one)
If you have writing software more than two.
uninstall both and read instrustion from yhoses company's user's guide,
and follow instruction.
make sure your writing software support windows 2000.
follow right update proccess.
by the way which writing software are you use?
and what is your PC spec?

here is Lite-on Support site
http://www.liteonamericas.com/us/service.htm
and here is check point from their web site

Check IDE connection in the back, make sure cable is securely attached at
correct orientaion
Check jumper setting on the drive.
There can only be 1 master device and 1 slave device on the same IDE channel

You do NOT need to load driver in Windows environment
Check your " IDE BUS controller " to ensure both IDE channel are enabled
