Cd-ROM problem

hello, My Cd burner is no longer working correctly, Recently in burning a cd the burn speed droped from my max at 16X to only 8X. I have not been able to get it to work at 16X since. My cd drive is a _NEC NR-7800A with max burn speed of 16X. I am using nero ultra 6 as my burning program and am running widows XP home. I have gone in nero to try and change the speed but it only reconizes the max speed to be 8X. I have reinstalled Nero and still the problem presists. I don't know where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot

it appears your mode has changed from dma to PIO
check attributes in system and looking under that device.
make sure it's DMA is checked.
