If you get a new driver from the manufacturer of the device, it should
come with instructions about how to set it up.
 
Open "My Computer">right click CD player and open properties> go to Hardware
Tab, and highlight your CD again, and hit properties button, and then hit
Driver tab, rest should be easy.

you should not need to install any special driver for a CD - except
perhaps an external USB one. XP uses the standard drivers for the
controllers it is plugged into (same as for hard disks) and adds
standard file systems. The only place drivers come in is with third
party burning programs for CD-R or CD-RW - and then installing that
program does the job
