CD rom drive restarts PC

Hi Guys,
Have a prob with DVD/CD-rom drive on my nephews pc every time he puts a CD
or a DVD in the rom drive the PC restarts. had this prob for some time and I
have replaced the DVD/CD rom with new one it worked ok first up but then went
back to its old habbits and restarting the pc. any idears from here guys ?

what type of cd ?

is it all cd's or just one cd?

All or any CDs or DVD put in, it reads and then reboots the pc.
He's about to use it for a boat anchor right now lol
Any help would be appreciated
