CD-ROM Drive Problems

Recently, when I start up my PC, I cannot run a CD-ROM in
any of my CD Drives. This never happened when I first got
my PC, about 6 months ago. When I go to My Computer,
there is no sign of the CD ROM drives, only the Floppy
disk drive is there. I have opened up my PC and checked
on the cable connecting the CD ROM Drives and it's fine,
it hasn't come out. There is power going to the CD ROM
Drive, it can be opened and closed with the open/close
button. Can someone please give me some advice?

I'm not an expert, but here is a suggestion. right click
on either your c drive, or a drive(or any other drive you
might have), select properties, then go to the hardware
tab. See if your cd devices are listed there. You can
double click them if they are there, and see if they have
been disabled. If they are there and disabled, try
enabling them. If it won't let you(windows cannot enable
this device because it is not working properly) then I
would suggest trying a different device. If that still
doesn't work, I'm thinking it could be the ide
controller. Just some thoughts for you, and maybe
someone else will sound in here!
