CD ROM Drive Active when it shouldn't be

I am running Win XP Home Edition SP3 on a Dell Dimension 3000. For some odd
reason every time I connect a One Touch Mini 4 external hard drive to a USB
port my CD ROM drive (D) light comes on and the drive sounds off like it is
searching for the non existent CD. I spoke to a Seagate Tech via chat and he
indicated he had never heard of such a problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check your anti-virus advance settings,it could be set to scan your optical
drives.

Well, I checked and didn't find any options for doing as you suggested. I am
running Avira Anti virus and couldn't find any option for optical devices in
the advanced tab.
