I can write to a CD Rewrittable some pictures JPegs, but I cannot delete any
of these pictures from the CD, not even after I uncheck the "read-only" mark
in Properties. I just want to delete on oe or two pictures of the set. Why
I cannot do that?

Because you over-estimate the abilities of Windows XP and CD-R/CD-RW.

Windows XP would allow you to FORMAT the entire CD-RW disc, starting over -
but it will not treat it like a floppy diskette/hard drive/network share.
That requires a 3rd-party application like Nero/Roxio.

what program did you write them with ?? XP native program
will not erase

If you are using the inbuilt CD burning, the method used is not a CD-RW
one and you cannot delete items individually, only erase the disk as a
whole. See http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm for more

Depends on how you write to a rewritable. If you use the usual method (as
in using Nero, Easy CD/DVD Creator or Windows' own built-in burner) then you
won't be able to delete files individually, you can only erase the CD as a
whole (this is due to how the filesystem for the CD is written).

To be able to write and delete files just like you can on a hard drive, you
need packet-writing software like Roxio DirectCD/Drag-To-Disc or Nero InCD.
You can format the disc (unless it's a Mount-Rainer/EasyWrite compatible
drive, in which case it doesn't need formatting) and then use it like you
would use the hard drive.

If you are using the inbuilt burning it is *not* writing files
individually in a CD-RW manner so you can update or delete them
individually. You need third party software. See
