CD-R not recognized

Powerpoint won't recognize my external CD-R as writeable...I want to "package
for cd" (PP 2003) and I've done all the things I can thing of (install
hardware etc). PP sees the device, but doesn't know it's a burner. HELP!

Choose to package to folder and then burn the contents of the folder (not
the folder itself) to the CD using whatever CD burning software you usally
use.

CD-Rs can't be written to from programs unless they've been formatted for
packet writing using Direct CD or some other program. Without that type
formatting you would need to use Windows XP Explorer or a 3rd party CD burn
progam to copy your Powerpoint program from your hard drive to burn it to
the CD.

PowerPoint simply uses the CD-burning capabilities built into WindowsXP, so

- If XP doesn't recognize the burner, Powerpoint won't either

- ISTR reading that XP recognizes/uses only the first CD if there are several
(or perhaps it's the first one that's capable of burning CDs ... I don't know)
so if you have multiple CD/DVD devices, that might be the problem

- If you don't have XP, then XP don't know nuthin' and neither does PPT. IOW, CD
burning from PPT only works in WinXP
