cd key & user name for word

i have a windows ME computer which was given to me.when i receive an
attachment in word, a screen comes up asking for user name and cd key, which
i do not have.i cannot get in touch with the original owner.is there anyway i
can re-set username and cd key?i am no computer whizz, so please could you
keep it simple.

The answer is unfortunately, no. You need the product key. Chances are the
person who owned the system before thinks they can reuse Word on another
computer and that may not be the case. If it came with the computer you now
own, it's tied to that system. And by not giving you the disk, he's
violating Microsoft's license agreement. Your best option is to pick up a
copy of Works Suite 2006 (available at Amazon.com for $85.14). This contains
Word 2002, which is the last version of Word that will run on Windows ME.
Word 2003 (the latest version) will NOT work on your system.
