CD/DVD device driver not found during Setup

I think I discovered an incompatibility with the NEC DV-5500a DVD-ROM drive
and Windows Vista Beta 2. Doing a clean installation from the bootable DVD,
the screen that comes up after clicking Install Now says something to the
effect of, "CD/DVD drive device driver not found. Please insert CD, DVD, USB
drive, etc that contains the driver files. It is safe to take the Vista DVD
out of the drive for this step." Since I have no driver files for this
drive, clicking OK just brings me back to this error dialog. There is no way
to cancel out of this loop.

Of course, it's gotten this far so we know the drive's fine.

Earlier CTP's sailed through this step without issue.

Replacing the drive with a newer one out of a different machine allowed me
to get through this step successfully.

Thanks.

Just make sure you turn the computer off first ;o) I had a nasty incident
once whilst taking out a single floppy drive from my machine.... owww :blush:P

I'm having the same issue with my NEC ND-3500AG DVD R/W, it loads the
initial image, I click on "Install Now" and it comes back with the error
message "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." I'm not certain
if NEC has any additional drivers (all I was able to find were flash updates
for the drive.) I know that I can install Windows XP, RedHat Fedora and any
other OS that I've worked with using this particular drive.

I'm getting the same error for my Memorex DVD+/-DLRWL16 drive tying to
install the 64 bit Vista version. I'll try using another drive. I've tried
two different install DVDs burned on different computers.

Just to update; I tried the 32 bit installer with the Memorex drive and had
the same error. I swapped the Memorex drive for a Sony DVD RW DW-U18A and
still got the "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." error with
the 64 bit installer.

You need to check your system carefully.
Support for ATAPI optical drives is in the base
of Vista, x86 and x64. If your drive is not
recognized it could be caused by an old cable or
something in the BIOS.

Thanks for the help. I had the DVD drive as master on the primary IDE
channel. I switched it to the secondary channel and install went fine.

Hi, I get the same error when attempting to install in a virtual machine
using the .iso image as the CD/DVD drive. Guess I'll have to actually burn a
DVD.
