CD/DVD Burner

Using SONIC software for the first time, I used my CD/DVD burner to back up
my favorites file. After indicating I wished to reformat a disc, I thought
the back up was successful. Now by double clicking or right clicking open on
the CD DVD icon I can't get any disc to open and display its contents. The
"Auto Play" window indicates the files are on the disc.

You do not format CD-Rs or DVD Rs. These type of media are Write Once style.
If you format them, then you can not write to them.

Use CD-RWs or DVD RWs.
