CD Drives stopped working

I am having the same problems as a couple other recent
posts with my CD drives. I installed media player updates
and both drives (one IDE and one USB) are now inoperable.
Both are recognized, but show that a driver wich they
depend upon is not loading properly. I've tried
reinstalling, etc - nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
