Have read CD-R AARTEC W-4848 read/write IDE DVDROM 16X. Problems: have
managed to burn some video and play the odd CD audio but very infrequent in
most cases will not recognise disc in drive. Have tried to follow Help line
but have gone down many blind alleys. Is there a saviour out there?

Invoke AutoPlay.
Click the My Computer icon on desktop and rightclick your CD-Rom drive.
Click Properties then the AutoPlay tab
Then "do your thing", and take it from there.

That doesn't sound like his problem. He says that it won't
recognise the disk in the drive (ie the blank one that he is
trying to burn).

You suggestion will work if he has turned autoplay off and
he wants to play/read a pre-recorded CD.

But as I said, I don't think that is his problem.

Cheers,

Cliff

I think that there are two possibilities, bad driver or
hardware problems. I'd suggest getting the latest drivers
from the manufacturer's web site.

Enkidu picked it - Poss my ques was unclear - but info on autoplay was useful
for future ref.
Thanks

cd drive doesn't work.dvd drive works fine.won't read cd's for music or
information. it always asks to insert a disk when there is one in there
already. when disk is put in tray it sounds like it is starting up but
nothing shows on screen.can't find the file.
