CD Drive Missing/broken?

I recently built a new PC while keeping my previous Hard drives and CD/DVD
writer.

But my Cd/DVD drive now has issues.

Although only having one physical drive, it previously in my computer would
show 2 drives, the CD drive, and the DVD drive, but it now just shows one.

Also it does not detect any CD, although sometimes will detect a CD if it
was in the drive as it booted up, it will detect that one, but not another as
its inserted. And if you right click the drive it hangs and hangs and does
nothing.

I thought it could be the software i installed with the motherboard from
ASUS the inter video software, the issues seemed to coincide with that, and
when i try to uninstall it the setup program does not launch, it will show in
task bar but nothing will come up on screen, and the only way to close it is
through task manager.

It was also suggested to me it sounds like a resource conflict. Although the
help so far on that has been limited, I don't know how to fix that if it is
that or anything, I have been into device manager uninstalled the drive and
rebooted but this hasn't fixed it either.

Try testing with the Windows XP TweakUI powertoy or Uwe Sieber's tool to
disable the
autoplay feature(s) on the CD/DVD drives, may be part of the problem..
